Internet killed the techno star...

As further evidence that techno has died; the Berlin Love Parade has been canceled for the second year in a row. Citing declining attendance, and a lack of willing corporate sponsors (since nobody is showing up anymore), the organizers of the parade have decided to cancel the gathering. They do hope to have one next year, in time for the 2006 World Cup.

If they can't even get enough people together to save techno in Berlin (maybe not the techno capital, but definitely a techno-metropolis), then that goes a long way in showing the decline of the genre.

If you didn't believe it when the Prodigy's last album came out (you remember, the terrible one which not only didn't sound anything like the Prodigy, but wasn't even worth listening to), this is a pretty good indicator for those still in denial over techno's death. It's a sad death, and a death which could have and should have been avoided; but that doesn't change reality.
