Could this be the game that gets me back into PC gaming....

Operation Flashpoint 2!

The original Operation Flashpoint is one of the best first person shooters ever made. You can even play the game in 3rd person mode, if you don't like first, and it was one of the earliest games to have that feature.

In the original Operation Flashpoint, you had so little room for error, it wasn't even funny. A small deviation from the right way to complete a mission, and you could count on being toast. But it rewarded those people by presenting an awesome array of missions, and it also featured the ability to get into vehicles, and let you choose where you sat, to give you options on how you wanted to interact with that vehicle. It was one of, if not the, first games to do that. Back then the recently announced HALO gave you that option, but then Microsoft bought Bungie, and that set HALO back for years so it could be remade into an Xbox game.

I've been away from PC gaming for about 5 years. There have been some games I've missed out on, but in the time that I've been away from the PC versions of stuff, console versions of FPS games have drastically improved. 5 years ago console FPSs were horrible, now they're pretty awesome. But I don't know if a console could handle an Operation Flashpoint game. Certainly a console couldn't handle a game designed like the first Operation Flashpoint. There's just so much going on and so much there, it just wouldn't be the same experience on a console. So that leaves me with the PC version.

I've been mulling over a PC purchase for years. Up to now it just hasn't been enough of an issue. But with the new Op Flashpoint coming, that might change things.
